With a sound described by Rochester’s City Newspaper as limber, attentive, and sumptious, Bridget Kinneary enjoys a creative performing career as a violist and collaborative artist. Most recently, she presented Bach without Boundaries, a viola/dance duet, at the Rochester Fringe Festival and performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and teaching artist throughout Southern Africa as part of the 2016 Music Inspire Africa Tour. As an ensemble member, Bridget has performed with the Eastman Philharmonia, Musica Nova, OSSIA New Music Ensemble, Eastman Composers Sinfonietta, the Texas Music Festival Orchestra, and more. She enjoys playing all types of music, but she has special interest in contemporary works.
Since she was in the seventh grade, Bridget has wanted to teach music and conduct student orchestras. She has experience working with students ages two through eighteen. From January-May 2016, Kinneary was the strings teacher at the Harley School in Rochester, New York. She also has worked as an early childhood music instructor at Eastman Community School and as a strings teacher for the ROCmusic collaborative, an El Sistema Inspired program in Rochester. Bridget has conducted the Rochester All-City Fundamental String Orchestra, taught private lessons in Houston and New York, volunteered for five years in the Klein ISD fifth grade strings program in Houston, and served as president of Eastman’s chapter of NAfME and the Klein ISD chapter of Texas Future Music Educators. She has been invited to be a guest teaching artist for the Piccadilly Symphony orchestra in Manchester, England and at the Hellenic Academy in Harare, Zimbabwe. She looks forward to gaining more international experience.
Bridget is an advocate for the future of classical music. She has held administrative internship positions with Sun Valley Summer Symphony, American Festival for the Arts, River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, and WXXI Classical 91.5 radio station in Rochester. As an effective communicator, she has given presentations for the Texas Music Educators Association and From the Top about preparing for and making the most of conservatory education.
Kinneary graduated from the Eastman School of Music in December of 2015 with a Bachelors of Music degree in Viola Performance and Music Education along with an Arts Leadership certificate. At Eastman, Kinneary studied viola with George Taylor. She spent a semester abroad studying music pedagogy at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg from April through July 2015.
Currently, Bridget resides in Berlin. She is a 2016-2017 Fulbright Grantee. She is a member of the 2016-2017 Global Leaders cohort of the Youth Orchestra of Americas.
